What a fun November!

What a fun November it has been!

Starting off, here's a cake for a girl I work with who loves dragonflies! (Chocolate cake. Vanilla buttercream. November 5)

This fun little character's name is Handy Manny (he's like a Bob the Builder spin-off) and mom requested this cake for Luke's 2nd birthday. (Chocolate cake. Vanilla buttercream. November 7)

Next Chris ordered this cake for her friend's baby shower. The carriage is chocolate cake, the wheels are vanilla and the colors match the little boy's nursery! (Chocolate and vanilla cake. Vanilla buttercream. November 20)

Next was this fun cake for my parent's surprise 30th anniversary party! I even used their original cake topper but updated the design to make it a little more modern (Those swans! The golden leaves! How '70s!). The tiers are accented with yellow polka dots and matching ribbon at the base. Each tier was made of 2 flavors of cake. (Chocolate and vanilla cake. Vanilla buttercream. November 27)

This next cake was for little Spencer's first birthday! It was decorated to match his jungle themed bedroom complete with lion. elephant giraffe and even a snake in the tree! (Chocolate cake. Vanilla buttercream. Chocolate pudding filling. November 28)

Remember, you can click on each of the pictures and they will get very large so you can see all the details.

Outrageous October

October has been an interesting cake month. I love the way my clients are constantly challenging me and I'm always learning new things.

For the second year in a row, I was asked to make Parke's birthday cake! This year he is all about the famous Mickey Mouse so I made him this chocolate cake as well as some cupcakes to house all the fun figurines! (Chocolate cake. Vanilla buttercream. October 9.)

In celebration of her father's nearly Halloween birthday, Missy ordered this (more cute than scary!) haunted house. I even inscribed it "Happy Boo-thday!" (Yellow cake. Vanilla buttercream. October 16.)

Next up was faire maiden Alexis' birthday! Angela chose a Snow White "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" theme for her daughter' cake and invited all the Disney princesses to the party. In order to achieve a shiny effect, luster dust was added to the mirrored part which made it silvery and glittery. (Chocolate cake. Vanilla buttercream. October 24.)

Christine ordered this bustier cake for a co-worker's bridal shower. Once again my camera has decided to mess with the colors showing a navy when in fact the detailing is dark purple. The corset eyelets are accented with sugar hearts and the only thing that's not edible is the white ribbon. (Yellow cake. Vanilla buttercream. October 24)

Scooby Doo!

Tyler's 5th birthday was Scooby Doo themed so I created this mystery machine cake with Scooby as the driver!

Scooby is made out of royal icing which means he's all sugar and completely edible. And don't forget the funky spare tire on the front!

(Chocolate cake. Buttercream icing. August 22)

Jersey, Racing and Baby Blocks

Here are cakes I've done for the remainder of June and the beginning of July.

Amber ordered a birthday cake for her husband Mike. He loves Emmitt Smith and the Cowboys. (Strawberry cake. Vanilla Buttercream. June 18)

This next cake was done for a boy named L.R. who was turning 9-years-old. We named the track LR Speedway and got some matchbox cars to go racing around the track. (Vanilla cake. Buttercream icing. July 12.)

This next cake was done for a baby shower awaiting a little bundle of joy to be named Dylan. (Strawberry cake. Vanilla buttercream. Homemade marshmallow fondant bow. July 18)

I also did a bachelorette party cake but the content is too explicit for this blog. If you are interested in seeing pictures, please let me know and I will email it to you.

Beetles, Birthdays and Carolina Blue.

Here are some recent cakes!

This one is for a 60th birthday. JB is a UNC grad with an old Volkswagen Beetle so his daughter ordered this cake. My husband hand-carved the car and it is sitting ontop of a 13x9 to have enough cake to feed all 50 guests. (Vanilla cake. Buttercream frosting. June 13.)

The design of the car and accents are based on the model of the last Bugs made back in 1976. Here's the cake with its inspiration picture!

This cake was made for my husband's 29th birthday so I got a little cheeky with the writing. He thought it was funny!(Chocolate cake. Buttercream frosting. June 7.)

This cake was done for Ellen's birthday. Her dad is the one who got the Beetle cake and I know she's a UNC fan too so I made this cake Carolina Blue as well. (Vanilla/Fudge swirl cake. Buttercream frosting. May 14.)

Update for the rest of April

This is a baby shower cake for a girl at work who was having a baby boy but hadn't picked out his name yet. They chose the name Maxwell James after he was born! The cake is chocolate and vanilla with buttercream frosting and fondant accents.

These cookies were for Carie's 30-something birthday. She's holding onto her youth though so I reflected that in her cookies. I think they're cute for my first cookie decorating endeavor. I'm doing some more this weekend so check back for those pictures soon!

Pretty in Pink

I just finished the fondant and gumpaste classes! It was so much fun to learn another method of decorating. I don't know how much entire cake covering fondant work I'll be doing but it's really helpful to know it for accents and things like that. I used the final project as my birthday cake so here it is. Vanilla cake (tinted pink!) with pink and green fondant and gumpaste accents. I love the way the 28 looks with the pearl dust. This is definitely my ideal cake!

(I have no clue why this picture wont upload as I'd saved it. Sorry you have to turn your head sideways!)
