More of the Backstory

Here's another picture post!

This cute cake was done for a 3-year-old's birthday. This Wiggles and Big Red Car inspired cake was so much fun to make. The cake is devil's food, the icing is buttercream and the Wiggles image is royal icing (and edible!). (10.5.08)

Who said wine and sweets don't go together? This strawberry birthday cake is frosted and decorated with cream cheese icing and the label is customized for the birthday girl. (3.709)

While we're on the subject of alcohol, this Budweiser inspired cake looks refreshing bursting out of the water. The can, a carved 3-d image, was only disappointing to the 23-year-old birthday boy because there wasn't really beer in it! To satisfy all party-goers, the can was vanilla cake and the base was chocolate. After serving it around a bunch of hungry friends at the bowling alley, there wasn't one morsel left! (11.28.08)

This cake was for a 4-year-old girl who loves "The Little Mermaid." The coral, Sebastian, Flounder and Ariel are made out of royal icing and the shells are colored chocolates. (10.26.08)

This 6th birthday cake was for a little country music fan who already loves to play the guitar. The decorations are all chocolate or vanilla buttercream. (2.21.09)

Speaking of boys and their pasttimes, this birthday cake was made for a guy who is a huge Carolina Panthers fan. This double layer chocolate cake also had chocolate pudding as a filling. (12.21.08)

For a change of pace, this zebra striped cake with pink accents (there's also pink fringe around the base) was for Michelle's 19th birthday.

This whimsical beach cake was done for a mom's birthday party. The free-form waves around the sides are buttercream icing and the top is graham cracker crumbs. The adirondak chairs were crafted from tongue depressors and q-tips and then hand painted. The kite is on beading wire with ric-rac tails. (2.14.09)
